Quelles que soient les précautions que l’on peut prendre, une blessure de votre chien est toujours possible. Elle constitue, avec la torsion d’estomac et le coup de chaleur, l’une des principales urgences chez le chien.

Blessure du chien : les accidents

Un moment d’inattention et l’accident peut arriver ! Si votre chien ne peut pas bouger parce qu’il s’est cassé une patte, est tombé par la fenêtre ou a été renversé par une voiture, vous devez le manipulé en douceur. Tout d’abord parce que face à la douleur, un chien peut mordre, un chat peut griffer. Autant que faire se peut, la colonne vertébrale sera maintenue bien droite pour l’amener le plus rapidement possible chez le vétérinaire:

Pour un petit chien conscient : prenez-le par la peau du cou d’une main en soutenant ses fesses de l’autre.

Pour un petit chien inconscient : soulevez-le délicatement et posez-le bien à plat sur une planche.

Pour un grand chien : placez-le sur une couverture qui vous servira de civière.

Massage cardiaque

En cas d’arrêt cardiaque, placez le chien dans la même position que pour la respiration artificielle :

Posez la main gauche bien à plat sur son flanc gauche, juste derrière le coude de sa patte avant gauche, votre pouce sous sa patte.

Appuyez rapidement sur la poitrine trois fois de suite, soufflez dans sa truffe et reprenez le massage.

Procédez ainsi 15 à 20 fois par minute.

Artificial respiration

Si votre chien présente une blessure, il est important qu’il ne puisse pas l’aggraver en la léchant, mordillant, grattant ou en tentant d’enlever son bandage. Pour cela, une muselière ou une collerette est d’une grande aide.

Confectionner une muselière

La muselière peut être une première solution pour empêcher son chien d’accéder à sa blessure. Vous pouvez en fabriquez une assez simplement :

Prenez un foulard ou une bande de tissu.
Posez-la à cheval sur le museau et faites un nœud serré sous le menton.
Passez les deux extrémités derrière la tête et les oreilles et faites un nœud.
Ne posez pas de muselière si le chien a des difficultés à respirer.

Confectionner une collerette

Pour éviter que l’animal ne se lèche une plaie ou tente de s’arracher un bandage, le meilleur moyen est de lui confectionner une collerette (sorte de col attaché au cou du chien isolant son visage du reste de son corps) :

Pour les petites races, la collerette peut être faite à partir d’une boîte de fromage blanc, par exemple, dont on aura découpé le fond.

Pour les grandes races, vous pouvez la fabriquer de la manière suivante :

– Découpez un rond dans un carton rigide et percez à l’intérieur de celui-ci un trou approximativement de la circonférence du cou du chien.
– Coupez le tout en deux et faites sur les bords des deux moitiés deux petits trous qui permettront de les attacher ensemble à l’aide de deux morceaux de ficelle.
– Attachez à moitié la collerette et posez-la derrière les oreilles du chien avant de la fixer entièrement, en attachant l’autre moitié. Ainsi, le chien ne pourra plus se lécher, les bords de la collerette l’empêchant d’atteindre sa peau.

Make a muzzle

 – Tie half the collar and place it behind the ears of the dog before fixing it entirely, by attaching the other half. Thus, the dog won’t be able to lick, the edges of the collar preventing it from reaching its skin.
