Alors que la population canine globale tend à diminuer en France (l’Hexagone compte 7 millions de chiens), le nombre de chiens de race, quant à lui, augmente. En 2017, le LOF a en effet battu tous les records en enregistrant un nombre d’inscriptions encore jamais égalé : 235 312. Cela démontre l’intérêt croissant des Français pour les chiens détenant un pedigree. Ainsi, lorsqu’il s’agit d’acheter un chien, nombreuses sont les personnes qui se tournent vers un élevage, et ce, afin d’acquérir un chien « LOF ». Et ça, c’est une bonne nouvelle pour les éleveurs !
En 2017, trois races de chiens de Bergers sont arrivées en tête du podium, comme en 2016. Les trois races concernées sont le Berger belge (n°1 du podium), suivi du Berger australien (qui passe de 3ème à 2ème), puis du Berger allemand.
Sans surprise, le groupe des chiens de bergers et Bouviers (groupe 1) est donc celui qui compte le plus de chiens inscrits au LOF en 2017 (52 753), loin devant les Terriers (groupe 3, avec 35 316 inscrits) et les Chiens d’agrément et de compagnie (groupe 9, avec 33 808 inscrits). On notera qu’un chien sur deux inscrits au LOF en 2017 appartient à l’un de ces trois groupes.

In 2017, three dog breeds of Bergers have reached the top of the podium, as in 2016. The three races concerned are the Belgian Shepherd (n ° 1 of the podium), followed by the Australian Shepherd (which goes from 3rd to 2nd), then of the German Shepherd.

Les 5 faits marquants de 2017

En 2017, le nombre d’inscriptions a battu son record depuis sa création en enregistrant un nombre pas moins de 235 312 inscriptions. Et bien que le nombre de chiens en France ait tendance à stagner avec environ 7 millions d’animaux dans les foyers, le nombre de chiens « LOF » semble donc quant à lui progresser.
Le Staffordshire Bull Terrier ou Staffie progresse dans le classement et passe devant son « cousin » américain est devient ainsi le premier représentant du groupe des chiens terriers en occupant la 4ème position.
Le Bouledogue français, est la seule race canine française du top 10.
Le seul Molosse présent dans le top 20 est d’origine italienne : c’est le majestueux Cane Corso.
Le Husky progresse fait une entrée fracassante dans le top 20 où il ne figurait pas en 2016…La série Game of Thrones à plus de 8 millions de téléspectateurs…n’est peut être pas étrangère à ce nouveau succès.
