Les signes de l’excitation sexuelle chez le chien

Chez un chien mâle, l’excitation sexuelle peut se manifester par :

• des chevauchements pendant lequels le chien enserre l’objet de son désir (la jambe de son maître, un coussin, un meuble, un autre animal…) fermement avec ses pattes antérieures et mime l’acte sexuel en bougeant le bassin d’avant en arrière. Le chevauchement sexuel est accompagné d’une érection,
• des fugues : on parle alors de vagabondage sexuel,
• de l’agressivité,
• des vocalises,
• un refus de s’alimenter,
• des reniflements sonores,
• tentatives le léchage du sexe d’autres animaux ou de personnes de son entourage,
• le vol et le mâchonnement de sous-vêtements.

Ces signes d’excitation sexuelle peuvent survenir lors de périodes stimulatrices pour le chien lorsqu’une chienne est en chaleur dans le voisinage ou lorsqu’une femme du foyer est en période d’ovulation ou de menstruations. S’il est vrai que ces comportements peuvent être incommodants, ils sont tout à fait normaux.

En revanche, en dehors de ces périodes stimulatrices pour le chien, la persistance de tels comportements peut révéler un hypersexualisme (ou satyriasis) du chien. En d’autres termes, la libido du chien devient exagérée et souvent très gênante au quotidien pour les personnes de son entourage.

Signs Of Sexual Excitement In Dogs

Comment calmer un chien trop excité ?

Face au chevauchement, adoptez la bonne attitude

Pour savoir comment réagir lorsque l’on surprend son chien à monter sur un autre animal, sur un objet inerte ou sur la jambe d’un invité, il faut d’abord apprendre à distinguer le chevauchement d’ordre sexuel du chevauchement social.

Le premier répond à une excitation sexuelle véritable et s’accompagne d’une érection puis, si le chevauchement n’est pas interrompu, d’une éjaculation. Pour faire cesser ce comportement, il faut tenter de détourner l’attention de votre chien au moment même où il commence à monter sur l’objet ou la personne en lui donnant un ordre ou en faisant un bruit. Proposez-lui ensuite une activité de substitution comme un jeu, une promenade ou un os de buffle à ronger.

Le chevauchement social se fait quant à lui sans érection.

Chez le chien adulte, il peut être le signe d’une tendance à la dominance. Le chien peut utiliser ce comportement pour asseoir son autorité sur son maître. Un tel comportement ne doit bien sûr pas être toléré. Un « non ! » ferme à chaque fois le chien essaye de monter sur quelqu’un ou quelque chose en présence du maître devrait suffire à le dissuader. Dans le cas inverse, ce sont toutes les règles de vie à la maison qui seront à revoir, de préférence avec l’aide d’un éducateur canin comportementaliste.

Un tel comportement peut aussi être un moyen pour le chien de capter l’attention de son maître. Dans ce cas bien particulier, il faut ignorer complètement le chien en faisant comme s’il n’était pas là. Si cela ne suffit pas, parlez-en à un spécialiste du comportement canin.

Chez le jeune chien, le chevauchement peut être la manifestation de deux émotions simultanées et contradictoires comme la joie et l’anxiété. Il est en effet courant qu’un chien agrippe la jambe d’un invité qu’il ne connait pas, à la fois content de l’accueillir et stressé par la nouveauté, comme pour évacuer le conflit intérieur qui l’habite. En général, ce comportement disparaît spontanément après l’âge d’un an. Dans le cas inverse, il est conseillé de consulter un comportementaliste.

En parler à votre vétérinaire

En dehors de la « période des amours », une libido exacerbée de votre chien mâle peut être le signe d’une pathologie ou un dérèglement hormonal. Il est donc important, si votre chien vous semble anormalement excité d’en parler à votre vétérinaire.

Ce dernier pourra confirmer la présence d’une maladie qui expliqueraient les troubles du chien et la traiter, le cas échéant, ou envisager avec vous une castration provisoire ou définitive de l’animal.
